Sara(h) Fun
My home girl, Sara, who I have BFFd since 6th grade came to visit on Sunday and stayed through today, Wednesday. Oh, what fun! I hadn’t seen her in person since Christmas so it was definitely a time for a reunion. Thankfully, we get to stay mucho connected via the Internet, phone, and even Skype.
Her main excuse for visiting was to help me prepare the baby room…and that we did! The baby room is the back (4th) bedroom in the house and since we moved here last October, it has been the junk room. It did house all of our huge baby stuff (including massive boxes storing the baby swings, bouncers, jumpers, toys, etc.) but it also housed all kinds of other random things we have never gotten around to finding a permanent location for in our house.
So a week or 2 ago I decided that I better get a move on and sort out all the non-baby junk prior to Sara’s helpful arrival. I was pretty successful and found a good home for lots of the junk. However, there’s also a fair amount that has found a temporary home in my hallway. So Sara and I made good use of Emma’s nap times and filtered out the rest of the non-baby junk, categorized and boxed up all of Emma’s clothes and shoes that she has grown out of, sorted out all the girly items, and lots more. We made great progress but there’s still a little work to be done including reassembling some of the baby stuff, purchasing organization bins or something for the stuff since I may or may not have a dresser in there at first, and finally finding a permanent home for all the junk that is still in my hallway!
And speaking of baby furniture, good news on the bed front for Emma. Since I’m planning to let baby use Emma’s crib rather than converting it for her to a toddler bed, I’ve been scoping out my options on purchasing an inexpensive twin bed for Emma. However, some friends of ours are moving out of the country and said we could have their double bed for Emma! Big time score! That transition should be interesting when it comes time!
Anyway, back to our time with Sara. She arrived late Sunday night and we stayed up late catching up on everything. Monday morning we got up bright and early and made a big family trip to the baby doctor for my ultrasound. After that, Sara, Emma, and I went straight to the beach…despite the annoying off and on rain all morning and in the forecast. It rained on us on the way there as well as on the way back but thankfully, it didn’t rain at all during our beach time. And I guess because of the nasty looking weather, there was almost no one else at the beach! Fun fun!
Tuesday morning we braved yet another rainy forecast and met up at a rose garden (or whatever it is) for mini photo shoots with my playgroup moms and their kiddos. It rained on us for our drive there but then quit long enough for all of us to get outside and get set up. Then, downpour!!! Some of us ran and hid in our cars while others hid under some trees hoping the rain would soon pass. We had props with us so I had my hands full and told Emma to follow me. She slipped and fell into a big puddle so she sat there and cried until I came back and retrieved her. Poor thing…she hates to be dirty! So after getting drenched and hanging around in the insanely mosquito infested greenery under the trees (good thing I remembered to pack the bus spray!), the rain finally let up enough to begin the photo shoots again. I can’t wait to see how the photos turned out! Thank you so much for doing that for us, Sara!
Tuesday evening, Rob kept Emma and put her to bed while Sara and I again ventured out into the rain to the Kemah Boardwalk to get in on a free Superchick concert. Dude, it was crowded but we managed to score a great FREE parking spot and a great place to stand away from the crowd but still have a good view of the band. Sara and I weren’t even sure what songs Superchick sang but knew we liked their music when we’ve heard them name on the radio. So surprisingly, we actually knew almost all of the songs w got to hear. We then went and hung out at good old B&N until they closed…ah, the college memories there
Here we are at the concert…
Today we took a few more fun photos, had a pretty unpleasant dining experience at Pappasitos, made a quick window shopping trip, and then had to drop her off at the airport…again, in the rain.
What a huge blessing it was to spend time with Sara!!! Even more fun is that I’ll get to see her again next week while we’re in Oklahoma! Love you, Sair!
