Coupon Loot

So, I told you last week that I was back in the couponing business.

I won’t be blogging about all of my coupon loot each week but I may do so when I score big or when there are some crazy deals I think you should know about.

This falls in neither category but for those of you who weren’t around to join me on my couponing journeys in the past couple years, I figure I’d give you a little glimpse of what a quick trip to CVS can do for you when you play the system and maximize coupons!

Last week I spent $6.48 out of pocket at CVS to buy some contact solution.  I wouldn’t normally pay that for contact solution or even for a normal coupon run but it was the beginning for me again and you usually have to shell out a couple bucks to get started couponing.  But if you play the game right, you shouldn’t have to pay much else out of pocket ever after that!

So the bottle of contact solution was actually priced at $7.99 but I had a $2 coupon for the it which made my total, with tax, $6.48.  But at the bottom of my receipt printed $7.99 worth of Extra Care Bucks (ECBs are CVS’s in store cash basically)…that’s $1.51 more than I paid for the contact solution so basically, CVS PAID ME to but the contact solution :)

So today I took in that $7.99 ECB, plus a coupon I printed from CVS’s website for a free hand sanitizing spray pen, plus a candy bar coupon that CVS printed out for me when I scanned my CVS card at their in-store kiosk and I purchased the things pictured here (except for the toothpaste which I’ll mention in a minute)…

The 2 bottles of contact solution, the 2 packages of feminine products, and the 2 packages of the new Pretzel M&Ms were all generating ECBs for their exact purchase price!  So with my coupons and ECBs, the total that rang up for me when I purchased all of this loot was a whopping $0.41!  That’s only because the candy bar coupon wasn’t for the full price of the candy bar but I needed it as a filler to exceed my $7.99 ECB (because if you don’t use all of it, the extra goes to waste).

AND, I got $7.98 worth of ECBs to use on my next transactions!  Booyah!

The toothpaste I bought at Walgreens.  The price was $3.49 but I paid $2.49+tax because I had a $1 coupon.  (Again, I only had to spend that much out of pocket because it was my first Walgreens couponing transaction in a long time.)  And when I paid for the toothpaste, a Register Reward (RRs are Walgreens’  in store cash) for $3.50 printed out for me to use on my next transaction.  So yes, that means I made $1 by purchasing free toothpaste!

Make sense?

There are lots of free websites online with excellent couponing information.  If you are interested in checking out the best one I’ve come across recently, check out Hip2Save.com!  Lots of really helpful tutorials and even videos to help you save big time!

Good times :)
